DAY 11: Final Departure
Once you land at the airport in Kathmandu, one of our representatives will meet you there. He will guide you to your hotel through the winding alleys of Kathmandu. In the evening, explore the nearby street vendors and food stalls to map a rough picture of Kathmandu. Those food stalls are a wonderful place to grab the taste of Nepal.
From Kathmandu, catch a scenic flight to Pokhara that takes around 30 mins. Then, drive to Nayapul from Pokhara in a Jeep. From Nayapul, your trek begins. Cross a suspension bridge across the Modi Khola and walk to the Birethanti where you will check your permits- both ACAP and TIMS. Then, instead of turning left or right, head straight towards the Syauli Bazaar on the west side of the Modi Khola. The market place of Syauli is the popular place where the throngs of people come to shop for vegetables and other commodities. Soon after the Syauli Bazaar, there is a flat section which later on invites a steep bluff to the Ghandruk, a nice and warm Gurung village. The incredible views of the Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchre are simply intoxicating.
From Ghandruk, catch the trail to Tadapani and twist your way at the first junction towards the Komrong. The walk is over the ridge. Within a while, you will arrive at the next junction that shows the path ahead to the Kimrong, a wonderful place to enjoy the glorious Himalayan views. This walk-in mostly descending, but after Kimrong, a steep bluff rises. Proceed northeast towards the village of Taulung where the main trail joins. Few distances ahead, the village of Chhomrong appears with excellent views of the northern mountains. This classic hamlet perfectly blends the cultural purity with sublime mountain ranges.
Leave Chhomrong as early as possible to prevent the grilling sun of the day from burning you. Except the sun, everything is pleasant about this trek. The trail passes through some of the exquisite forests saturated by diverse species of birds and butterflies. Within a while, you will arrive at the village of Sinuwa, which shows the further way ahead to Bamboo. There is not much altitude gain from the Sinuwa, but still, the frequent ups and downs inside the forest will add up the challenge of the trek. By the time you make an appearance at the Bamboo, walk up to the side hill to witness the splendor of the Hiunchuli peak.
Proceed ahead from the Bamboo towards the Dovan, which is a warm and sunny spot. After Dovan, you will come across the treacherous snow-fields, which are the remains of the old avalanches. About an hour or two later, you will find a large overhanging rock, peering at the sensational glimpse of the incredible mountain vistas. This rock is so massive that it used to shelter over 50 porters and wanderers when there was no teahouses or homestays for stay. Continue your journey through Hinku cave to make an appearance at the Deurali.
From Deurali, you are entering the avalanche-prone region, so be careful on the snow. Within about an hour, you will reach the base camp of the Machhapuchre peak, which doesn’t look like a base camp. Then, head straight towards the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) which is the major highlight of the trek. At a glance, the base camp of the Annapurna looks like a vast snowscape surrounded by the incredible haze. But, as you stay till the afternoon, this haze clears away to show up the brilliant peaks of the vast Himalayan Kingdom. It is simply a magical spot. Then, in the evening, stay at one of the lodges at the Annapurna Base Camp.
We will wake up early in the morning and witness the glorious sunrise from the Base Camp of the Annapurna. After having breakfast, we will descend back to the Machhapuchre Base Camp (MBC). But, be careful while descending because the slippery slopes may turn dangerous. After MBC, proceed towards the Deurali and come out into Bamboo through Dovan. Bamboo is a pleasant place to stay.
From Bamboo, retrace your steps back to the Chhomrong along the same trail that you have been through earlier. From there, instead of joining the trail to Taulung, go straight ahead over the steep section to Jhinu Danda. Few distances ahead, there is a natural hot spring. Plunge your tired body into the healing water of the Jhinu Hot Spring.
From Jhinu Danda, head straight down to the Nayapul and catch a drive to Pokhara. As the trails follow descent sections most of the time, it is easier to descend. Once you arrive at Pokhara, you may explore some of the caves, waterfalls, and lakes in the evening. Pokhara is a vibrant place to stay.
After Pokhara, catch a scenic flight to Kathmandu that takes around 30 minutes. In the day, you may go for shopping around the souvenir stalls and handicraft-selling vendors to purchase something for your home and family members. You may as well explore the remaining historical sites in the Kathmandu. Enjoy the last day of your stay in Nepal.
It is a warm farewell. We will accompany you until the airport, to wish a safe and enjoyable flight ahead.
